U.S. Seeks Wider Role for Secret CIA Paramilitary Forces 23 Oct 2010 The U.S. is pushing to expand a secret CIA effort to help Pakistan target militants in their havens near the Afghan border, according to senior officials, as the White House seeks new ways to prod Islamabad into more aggressive action against groups allied with al Qaeda [al-CIAduh]... The current efforts to expand CIA presence are meant to expand intelligence collection and facilitate more aggressive Pakistani-led actions on the ground. Some U.S. officials, however, remain hopeful that Islamabad will allow a greater covert presence that could include CIA paramilitary forces.

US pushing for dramatic expansion of covert CIA 'ground forces' in Pak: Report 23 Oct 2010 The United States is reportedly pushing for the expansion of a secret Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) effort to help Pakistan target militants in their havens near the Afghan border, as the White House seeks new ways to prod Islamabad into more aggressive action against Al Qaeda [al-CIAduh] and its allied groups, according to senior officials... The number of CIA personnel in Pakistan has grown substantially in recent years. The push for more forces reflects, in part, the increased need for intelligence to support the CIA drone program that has killed hundreds of militants thousands of civilians with its drone strikes.

The day ends in 'y,' so it's time for another taxpayer-funded bl*wjob for US contractors, to bribe Pakistan to allow the US to slaughter civilians with CIA killer drones: AP: US to give Pakistan $2B in new military aid 22 Oct 2010 The Obama administration is laying out a new multiyear, multibillion-dollar military aid package for Pakistan as it presses the Islamabad government to step up the fight against foment extremists there and in neighbouring Afghanistan, U.S. officials say. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were to unveil the plan Friday... the officials said. The money will be provided over the next five years under the State Department's Foreign Military Financing program that funds other countries' purchases of U.S.-made arms, ammunition and accessories, the officials said.

US State Dept. will hire another 7,000 security contractors for Iraq 21 Oct 2010 The US government will hire an additional 7,000 mercenaries once Congress approves the 2011 budget. Speaking at the annual Arab-US Policymakers conference in Washington, Michael Corbin, Deputy Assistant Secretary for State for Iraq said security contractors will help "the Iraqi government improve its police department and other civil agencies." Corbin stated that State Department will hire another 7,000 security contractors once Congress comes through with a 2011 budget, in which the State Department has requested USD 2.6 billion for operations in Iraq.

Huge dossier of secret files shows the US ignored torture of Iraqis --Killings at checkpoints were 'covered up' --Estimate of civilian deaths rises to 122,000 23 Oct 2010 Whistle-blowing website Wikileaks unveiled its cache of secret Iraq war documents last night in what is the largest leak in US military history. The reports deliver a devastating verdict on the Coalition's involvement in Iraq including revelations that the American military: --Knew Iraqi officials were torturing detainees but ruled against intervening. --Conspired to cover up the deaths of "hundreds" of Iraqi civilians at manned checkpoints. --Kept records of the number of Iraqi civilians that were being killed, despite famously claiming that the military "didn't do body counts".

More Blackwater shootings unveiled --Washington hired firm under $465M contract to provide largely unregulated mercenary services in Iraq 23 Oct 2010 The latest Wikileaks files reveal 14 unreported shooting incidents against Iraqi civilians, involving those by an infamous private security firm working for the US military. Xe, formerly known as Blackwater, rose to notoriety in 2007 when guards opened fire on a busy square in central Baghdad, killing 17 Iraqi civilian. However, the leaked documents suggest 10 more civilians were killed and another seven were wounded by the US security contractor's employees in the suppressed incidents.

Wikileaks: Civilians gunned down at checkpoints by US soldiers --Full details of how US soldiers killed innocent Iraqi civilians at road checkpoints are revealed in the war logs published by Wikileaks. 23 Oct 2010 In one incident, in September 2005, two US soldiers saw a vehicle approaching in the dark on a main road near Musayyib, south of Baghdad. They waved their arms and flashed lights. When the car failed to stop they fired warning shots, then opened fire with M249 automatic light machine guns. Each soldier fired up to 100 rounds, killing a man and a woman in the front of the car and wounding their children, aged six and nine, in the legs. Many other Iraqis, including dozens of women and children, were killed at checkpoints, on roads and in raids on people's homes, according to the logs.

The Taliban claimed that they successfully targeted the aircraft on Saturday in remote Paktika province near the border with Pakistan's South Waziristan, the Afghan Islamic Press reported. However, ISAF dismissed the Taliban's claim, saying the helicopter crashed due to a mechanical failure, but did not announce the exact location of the incident.

US-trained cartel terrorises Mexico --Founders of the Zetas drug gang learned special forces techniques at Ft. Bragg before waging a campaign of carnage. 20 Oct 2010 It was a brutal massacre even by the gruesome standards of Mexico's drug war: 72 migrant workers gunned down by the "Zetas" - arguably the country's most violent cartel - and left rotting in a pile outside a ranch in Tamaulipas state near the US border in late August. ...The real surprise comes not in their ruthless use of violence, but in the origins of where the Zetas learned the tricks of their bloody trade. Some of the cartel's initial members were elite Mexican troops, trained in the early 1990s by America's 7th Special Forces Group or "snake eaters" at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, a former US special operations commander has told Al Jazeera.

Patients' anger after they are unable to opt out of swine flu vaccine despite fears of side effects 24 Oct 2010 Patients' groups have expressed anger over this year's [deadly] seasonal flu jab programme because people are unable to opt out of having the swine flu vaccine. The H1N1 vaccine will be the dominant of three flu strains included in the shot, meaning  millions of elderly and vulnerable patients will get it automatically. Yet many people refused to have the swine flu vaccine when it was offered last year because of fears it  may cause serious side effects. The Mail on Sunday revealed last week that Government experts are examining a possible association between the H1N1 swine flu jab and the paralysing nerve disease Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The vaccine has also been linked to fevers in young children, temporary paralysis and narcolepsy.

New strain of swine flu emerges - report 21 Oct 2010 The H1N1 swine flu virus may be starting to mutate, and a slightly new form has begun to predominate in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, researchers reported on Thursday. More study is needed to tell whether the new strain is more likely to kill patients and whether the current vaccine can protect against it completely, said Ian Barr of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza in Melbourne, Australia and colleagues. It is possible it is both more deadly and also able to infect people who have been vaccinated, they said.

The accusation against Perry, now a congressional candidate, was made Tuesday in a statement from Lisa Allen, who was 14 when she was assaulted near a Wareham cranberry bog. "He had to hear me screaming and crying," said Allen, who released the statement to the Globe through her lawyer. "Instead of helping me, Jeff Perry denied anything happened."

Clarence Thomas's credibility at issue again 22 Oct 2010 The phone call Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas's wife placed to Anita Hill earlier this month seeking an apology for Hill's allegation 19 years ago that Thomas sexually harassed her may go down as a textbook lesson in unintended consequences... Lillian McEwen, a former girlfriend of Thomas's, appeared to corroborate Hill's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee's hearings on Thomas's nomination that he had a keen interest in pornography and sometimes made sexually-suggestive comments to women in the workplace -- allegations that Thomas has always denied. "He was obsessed with pornography," McEwen told ABC7/WJLA-TV. "It was something he talked about quite frequently." McEwen also confirmed reports that Thomas asked a colleague about her bra size and that he was a regular at a Dupont Circle shop that offered pornographic films. "The owner of the store stocked Clarence's preferences behind the counter," McEwen said. [This perjuring, predatory piece of Reichwing sh*t has been sitting on the High Wh*re Court, burning us for *years.* He needs to be REMOVED from the Court NOW.]

Dow Chemical delivered $1.7 million to the chamber last year as the group took a leading role in aggressively fighting proposed rules that would impose tighter security requirements on chemical facilities. And Goldman Sachs, Chevron Texaco, and Aegon, a multinational insurance company based in the Netherlands, donated more than $8 million in recent years to a chamber foundation that has been critical of growing federal regulation and spending. These large donations -- none of which were publicly disclosed by the chamber, a tax-exempt group that keeps its donors secret, as it is allowed by law -- offer a glimpse of the chamber's money-raising efforts...

The president of the Victorian Trades Hall Council, Kevin Bracken, told ABC Radio in Australia he thought the official US government explanation was a "conspiracy theory that doesn't stand up to scientific scrutiny". ...Bracken went on: "Well, the fact is that aviation fuel doesn't get hot enough to melt steel. In my mind the buildings were imploded".

DoD expanding domestic cyber role --Military to likely be key part of response to cyber attack 20 Oct 2010 The Defense Department is quietly taking on an expanding role in defending U.S. critical infrastructure from cyber attacks. In a break with previous policy, the military now is prepared to provide cyber expertise to other government agencies and to certain private companies to counter attacks on their computer networks, the Pentagon's cyber policy chief, Robert Butler, said Wednesday. While the Department of Homeland Security officially remains the lead government agency on cyber defense, the new agreement "sets up an opportunity for DHS to take advantage of the expertise" in the Pentagon, and particularly the secretive electronic spying agency, the National Security Agency, said Butler, who is a deputy assistant defense secretary.
