Press Information Bureau Government of India ******* CGCRI CELEBRATES 67TH FOUNDATION DAY OF CSIR Kolkata,October 25,2009 The Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) celebrated the 67th Foundation day of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Kolkata today. Speaking on the occasion, Dr.Samir Brahmachari, Director General, CSIR remembered that CGCRI is the mother and technically the first laboratory of CSIR. CSIR at present have 38 laboratories situated in different parts of the country of which West Bengal has three-- CGCRI, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology(IICB) and Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute(CMERI). Dr. Brahmachari lamented that these days CSIR does not have great brand equity. "We don't know that we are really so good", he said. The Director General rued the fact that since a large number of scientists in CSIR work for the country, CSIR has been taken for granted. Recently CSIR has taken an important step to establish an Innovation Centre at Baruipur, South 24 Parganas where the leading edge Science & Technology activities will be pursued by the three CSIR laboratories in West Bengal, the Director General informed. On this occasion of 67th Foundation Day celebration, CGCRI execute an agreement for transfer of know how for manufacture of Bio-active Coating for Orthopedic and Dental Applications to IFGL Refractories Limited. These products manufactured under both ISO and CE certifications are highly affordable than their comparable equivalents. Pricing is aimed to provide maximum possible cost advantage to public at large. Dr. H.S. Maity, Director, CGCRI in his address expressed the hope that CGCRI has not only made a dramatic turn around but is poised to attend greater high up in future. ****** SC/spandey
