The first shot from the CWG came when one group of participants from one country - I do not remember which - complained that when they came to the room they were assigned they found that there was shit in the commode. This is not uncommon. I have been in such positions before. Labourers working on sites get the STD call of nature and they go to the first place available and then they find that the condominium has run out of water and they go their way without writing any epitaph on the shit.
There was shortage of supervision and nothing more at that toilet, but that cost the country its prestige. But the next day brought a comment from one of our officials that their standards and our standards of hygiene are different. Since the blessed fellow - he did not reveal whether he was a Hindu or Muslim or whether he hailed from the north or south or or the NE or whether he he was a son of the soil/shit - I am not in a position to judge him as Venky and their likes would do
But judging by the responses that come I think that there are many pretending tigers are now showing off their spots though painted ones. And who painted those spots? I will get to that later
Add another definition:CWG Sports Commentator: Big mouth who has fun spouting off about "corruption" and accusing people on the basis of "leaks" emanating from BritainThe entire frenzy began with the "leak" from a source in the British government through the Indian High Commission in London. So far, there has been nothing but allegations on the basis of the so-called "leaks"..Threats not to come and cancellations by athletes have come primarily from Britain, NZ and Austratlia (where sports officials are still smarting about losing the VP post at the Olympic Committee because of what they see as the result of Indian lobbying).I'm just waiting for the Ayodhya verdict to be released just as the Games begin and staged "communal riots" in India's major cities. Perhaps we could arrange to have a riot staged as part of the opening ceremonies and save MI-6 the trouble.India's at the receiving end of a very sophisticated propaganda assault folks. So don't take it all at face value.

I agree 100%.. This is the only piece that I have seen that brings a smile on our faces when we think of the abysmal failure that is the CWG..Of course, we Indians would forget the embarrassment of this very easily and move on. The scamsters who brought this disgrace on the country will go scotfree and will gloat and laugh all the way to the Swiss bank..
They had assigned two labourers to clean 100 rooms in each building for the athletes. You can imagine the kind of cleaning done by "labourers" instead of professional cleaners. Of course, thanks to our caste system and hierarchy-related issues, the cleanliness of the buildings will be compromised.

What a shame to India. We cannot construct a foot bridge properly.
India recently got much favorable publicity due to the IT sector. That is simply being squandered now.
The govt entrusted politicians like Kalmadi to with the games and gave them immense amount to the tune of 30,000 crore, many say. The politicians, officials and contractors ate a sizeable chunk of it.
It is a shame that Manmohan singh, Sonia, Rahul and Sheel deekshit allowed that.

Hello
When I read the bad news about yesterday's fiasco at the facility of the Commonwealh Games in New Delhi, it made me feel very bad.
The collapse of the foot bridge, the bad condition of finish of the Athletes residential quarters and general bad infrastructure at the New Delhi Cmmonwealth Games facilities once again shows how deep seated are problems of management in most Indian Govt controlled entites. Rampant corruption between Govt officials and construction contractors, negligence by Govt officials and general lack of responsible behaviour by concerned parties has led to substandard construction of buildings and facilities and unsafe/unhygienic conditions in the Games compound.
The officials incharge had plenty of time to complete construction and to ensure that no substandard construction woes – something endemic to India's big cities – occur. The Govt spent a huge amount of money and yet these awful problems occurred. It has brought very negative publicity to India's image as a nation of competent technocrats and managers and has sullied the nation's reputation.
Even though much progress has been made in India in recent years the malaise of self-praise and gloating over average achievements as the world's best, is hurting the improvement of quality in the products. Coupled with that is the tendency to take short cuts and make a quick buck. Such loss of quality control hyas become endemic and routine in India in recent years. The thirst for "India Shining" without putting in the needed hard work and dedication is now coming home to roost.
I hope this undesirable bloody nose will wake up the managers at the helm of affairs in the Indian Govt and make them change their attitudes and arrogance.
