Dr. Bhupen Hazarika honoured in London - 1999

This is my last memory of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika when he visited London in 1999. I have organised a memorable function at Indian YMCA for his honour. His Excellency: Dr. Lalit Mansingh, the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom delivered a heart touching informative speech praising Dr. Hazarika. The dignitaries that were present at the event were Lord Dholokia & Lady Ann, Professor Indra Nath Choudhuri, Director of the Nehru Centre, Dr. Audrey Cantlie, Department of Anthropology and Sociology - SOAS, Rita Payne - Asia Editor, BBC World News (TV) Kailash Budhwar, BBC Hindi Service, Lalita Ahmed, Hindi language department of BBC World Service, Amit Roy, Daily Telegraph.
Debojit Barua came all the way from USA.

Bhupen Hazarika Smaran Sabha was organised at Talbagicha, Kharagpur on
26.11.2011. It was organised by Chitra Taranga a local music school.
Prof Raja Dutta, Prof. S. P. Sarma, Prof. A. Sarkar and Prof. K.
Pathak of IIT Kharagpur particiapted in the programme. A team of
students of IIT Kharagpur (Department of Mining Engg and Dept of
Chemical Engineering) performed in paying homage to lateDr. Bhupen
Hazarika through instrumental music. Though most of the students from
North East could not participate in the programme due to their other
engagements, the function was well attended by the local people and
the programme continued till 10 pm.

Hi Rini Baideo,

Thanks for sharing these moments from the past. 1999 was the first time I had seen Bhupen da in person in Guwahati...but I had caught a glimpse of him in Jamshedpur during 1993 winter when he came to sing for a local Bengali association. And year 2000 was the last time I saw him from close quarters in New Jersey.
