Jerusalem will explore the city from the time of Abraham/Ibrahim till the present and discusses how this historic city was the centre of the 3 Abrahamic religions, its cultural and political significance and the struggle of the Palestinians to get their land back from the Zionist occupation.
This unique performance first took place in Karachi and is now being replicated by the team in Lahore at the Alhamara Halls, the Mall on November 24, 2011 at 7.30 pm to 10.00 pm. The performance is being reproduced as a fundraiser for the School and proceeds from this performance will go towards the Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust Higher Secondary School (SNPETHSS).
SNPETHSS was established in 1995 by Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust (SNPET), a not-for-profit trust registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860. Its vision is "to enable the future of the children of the disadvantaged, to develop their creative potential for the advancement of humankind and meaningful progress of the country, by providing them an intensive, quality and contemporary education experience". The Proceeds from Jerusalem will be used for the School and its expansion.
Jerusalem's concept and direction is done by Anwer Jafri, the narration and the photography is done by Dr. Iftikhar Salahuddin, the choreography is by Sheema Kermani, and the production and presentation will be done by Tehrik-e-Niswan.
Dr. Iftikhar Salahuddin is an ENT and Head and Neck surgeon in Karachi. He is deeply interested in Middle Eastern History and has been invited by universities in Pakistan for lectures on History of Jerusalem and on The Golden Centuries of Islam. Dr. Salahuddin is an avid photographer of nature and historical monuments. His photographs have been published in newspapers and magazines, and displayed at exhibitions.
Mr. Anwer Jafri graduated in Fine Arts from the Karachi University and did his post-graduation in Film Making from School of Audio Visual Studies, Manchester Polytechnic in U.K. His involvement in theatre began in the 1980's with designing sets for Tehrik-e-Niswan's plays. He has been writing and directing plays for theatre and television for many years.
Tehrik-e-Niswan (Women's Movement), has consistently strived to raise awareness about women's rights in Pakistan, using the medium of theatre, dance, music and video productions. It has mounted over 50 theatre productions, many of which have been landmarks in the history of theatre movement in Pakistan.
