“Georgian soldiers were doped to kill civilians”
Many of the Georgian soldiers who took part in the attack on South Ossetia in August were drugged before going into combat, according to a Moscow-based human rights group.


On Monday in New York the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights (MBHR) presented a book of photos and testimonies from the war.

MBHR Director Aleksandr Brod said Ossetian witnesses reported many of the captured Georgians had numerous injection markings on their arms.

He suggested they “would not dare to burn women and children alive locked in churches or throw grenades into basements where people were hiding unless they were drugged.”


Brod cited accounts of Georgian troops attacking civilian convoys fleeing from the battlefield and the deliberate shelling of the Tskhinval hospital, schools and residential areas.


From the very beginning of the conflict both the Ossetian and Russian sides accused Georgia of planning the genocide of the Ossetian people. According to MBHR at least 1,690 people were killed and about 1,500 were wounded over the five-day war.


The Georgian side denies the accusations of war crimes, while Human Rights Watch believes the number of casualties has been exaggerated.

Brod said an international tribunal should be established to investigate the events of the Ossetian war.


MBHR is a Moscow-based human rights organisation which has been monitoring and publicising cases of racism, xenophobia and religious intolerance across Russia.

Coastal Maine Tide Change A Mystery
'Meteorologists are baffled by rapid tidal changes along the Maine coast, which damaged some boats and piers. Witnesses say low tide turned and became high within a matter of minutes on Tuesday afternoon. The changes occurred six or seven times. Schoolboy, 15, Held As Terror Suspect After Taking Photos Of Railway Station For GCSE Project
'A schoolboy was held as a terrorist suspect by police support officers - for taking photographs of a railway station on a geography field trip. Fabian Sabbara, 15, was dressed in his school uniform when he was stopped by three police community support officers for taking photos of a station on his mobile phone. He explained he was taking pictures, as well as pedestrian counts and a traffic survey, as part of a GCSE project.
But PCSO Barry Reeve told Fabian, from Cheam in South London, to sign forms under Section 44 of the Terrorism Act, which allows police to stop and search at random anyone they suspect of terrorism. The pupil from Rutlish High School, Merton, was forced to comply or face arrest after he was stopped at nearby Wimbledon railway station.'

The word ‘sleaze’ is defined as ‘informal behaviour in public life considered immoral, dishonest, or disreputable’. The term ‘slither’ is described as ‘to glide or slide like a reptile’. Put the two together and, hey presto, it’s Peter Mandelson.

Ultrasound Shown to Exert Remote Control of Brain Circuits

Rand Corporation Lobbies Pentagon To Start Major War To Save The US Economy
'According to reports out of top Chinese mainstream news outlets, the RAND Corporation recently presented a shocking proposal to the Pentagon in which it lobbied for a war to be started with a major foreign power in an attempt to stimulate the American economy and prevent a recession. GCHQ IT Security Expert Slams Government Claims About ID Cards
'Gordon Brown's claims for the £4.5billion ID cards project have been disputed by one of the Government's own electronic security experts.The Prime Minister and Home Secretary Jacqui Smith have repeatedly said that ID cards will help thwart terror attacks. Mr Brown said a national ID card scheme could 'disrupt terrorists' while Miss Smith has claimed ID cards will be a 'robust defence' against terrorists using false identities. Police Plan mass DNA Screening For Murder Committed 25 Years Ago
'Police are carrying out a mass DNA screening in the hope of solving the murder of a teenage girl exactly 25 years ago. Trainee hairdresser Colette Aram, 16, was raped and strangled as she walked to her boyfriend's house. The death led to a huge manhunt and the case was the first to be featured on BBC's Crimewatch in 1983, but her killer has never been caught.However, new techniques mean that police have since been able to obtain a DNA profile of the person responsible. A dedicated team of officers has begun following up the fresh evidence in an operation codenamed Odyssey. DNA swabs have already been taken from more than 800 past and present residents of the village of Keyworth in Nottinghamshire, where the attack took place.'

Shimon Peres To Be Knighted By Queen Elizabeth
'Israeli media reported this week that the Israeli Embassy in London and Buckingham Palace are close to an agreement on having Queen Elizabeth confer honorary knighthood on Israeli President Shimon Peres when he visits the UK next month. Smokers To Be Banned From Becoming Foster Parents
'Smokers could be completely banned from fostering children under controversial proposals branded health 'fascism' by opponents. Redbridge in East London is believed to the first council in the country to consider a total ban on foster carers who smoke, no matter how old the child they want to look after. Suspected Holocaust Denier Wins His Legal Fight Against Extradition After Judge Throws Case Out Of Court
'An alleged Holocaust denier has won his fight against extradition to Germany. Dr Gerald Toben, 64, is accused of publishing anti-Semitic material on his website. Seven Obese Children Placed In Care
'Obtained under Freedom of Information laws, reports showed one boy aged six in Derby was taken from his home by social workers because he was dangerously obese. Another boy in London, aged 12, was put into care with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 28 - 60 per cent above the 17.5 average for his age. In Cumbria, social services intervened when one girl aged only eight weighed over 9st and wore size 16 clothes. Dr Colin Waine, former head of the National Obesity Forum, called for closer monitoring of children to avoid them being taken into care. He told The Daily Mirror: "This would enable appropriate action to be taken so we eliminate the need for such drastic measures. I'm looking for a position where this never becomes necessary."

Nursery Chain To Launch Fingerprint Scanners To Check Parents Before They Are Allowed To Collect Their Children
'A chain of nurseries is to require parents to use fingerprint scanners before collecting their children, it emerged yesterday. Fifty nurseries run by kidsunlimited, a national group catering for children aged three months to five years, will phase in the technology over the next few months. Six, including those in Cambridgeshire, Wilmslow in Cheshire and Notting Hill, West London, already operate the system. At least 100 other private or voluntary nurseries are already thought to be using scanners. Lee Pearson, kidsunlimited chief executive, said: 'We aim to remain at the forefront of innovative childcare and to challenge traditional views of the sector.' Manufacturer Honeycomb Solutions claims fingerprint security systems will be 'commonplace' in private schools and nurseries within five years.'

The Slaves That Time Forgot
'They came as slaves; vast human cargo transported on tall British ships bound for the Americas. They were shipped by the hundreds of thousands and included men, women, and even the youngest of children. Whenever they rebelled or even disobeyed an order, they were punished in the harshest ways. Slave owners would hang their human property by their hands and set their hands or feet on fire as one form of punishment. They were burned alive and had their heads placed on pikes in the marketplace as a warning to other captives.
We don’t really need to go through all of the gory details, do we? After all, we know all too well the atrocities of the African slave trade. But, are we talking about African slavery?'
