Shri Sacin Pilot dedicates modernised Indraprastha HPO to public
New Delhi: October 7, 2009
Shri Sachin Pilot, the Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, dedicated the Indraprasatha Head Post Office, modernized under Project Arrow, to the public here today. Referring to the focus on preparedness for forthcoming Commonwealth Games Mr. Pilot assured that Delhi post offices will be the most prepared entities for the event. He said Delhi post offices were not taken up for modernization during first and second phase of Project Arrow. Now 66 post offices in Delhi have been selected under phase III where half of the Delhi postal staff works and conducts half of volume of business in the city, he added. The Minister congratulated the 4.75 lakh postal employees working in 1.55 lakh post offices across the country for serving and sustaining the faith of 'Aam Aadmi' for more than a century.
Speaking on the occasion Chief PMG Shri P.K. Gopinath said that any investment must lead to revenue generation which can be achieved by the consistent standard of performance.
The Indraprastha HPO is the third modernised post office dedicated to the public. Earlier Kashmiri Gate GPO and Sansad Marg HPO were dedicated on 19th and 22nd September 2009.
This HPO was inaugurated by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then Minister for Communication, Govt. of India on 30.09.1975. Situated at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg on a plot of 47738.9 Sq. Ft., the IPHO's delivery jurisdiction is spread over an area of 20 Sq. KM.
Seventeen Sub Post Offices are under Account jurisdiction of this H.O. A total of 246 staff are working in this office including Senior Post Master .
Letter Box Clearance takes place thrice a day i.e first at 08.00 hrs, second at 11.30 hrs and third at 14.30 hrs from 74 Letter Boxes installed in the area.
There are three Deliveries at 10.00 hrs,10.30 hrs and 15.00 hrs every day.
On an average 18000 Ordinary Articles, 1110 Registered Articles, 2920 Speed Post Articles, 160 Money Orders, 190 DJB and MTNL bills etc are booked everyday.
On an average 16000 Ordinary Articles, 1330 Regd. Articles, 3120 Speed Post Articles, 250 MOs, are received for delivery everyday.
Average daily transactions with respect to Deposits in Saving Schemes & Certificates are 1675 and for withdrawal are 1415.
Total No. of Accounts standing as on 31.03.2009 (in all categories/scheme/including SO's –103612 Accounts
Daily Average of Cash Transaction comprise Receipt of Rs.22, 55,000.00 and Payment of Rs. 21, 00,000.00. This office is distributing pension to 572 Pensioners including Postal Audit, Telecom, Railway & EPF.

India and Saudi Arabia to increase cooperation in tourism sector

The Union minister of state for Tourism, Shri Sultan Ahmed who is currently on a four day official visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (05-08 October 2009) held a meeting with Dr. Salah K. Al-Bukhyyet, Vice president for Investment, Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities. During their meeting, the two sides discussed matters of bilateral cooperation in the tourism and hospitality sector and issues of mutual interest particularly with regard to ways and means of increasing tourism in both the countries. The bilateral cooperation envisages finalizing international executive programme for cooperation. Shri Sultan Ahmed offered India's vast expertise to augment the hospitality sector in Saudi Arabia and to train and enrich the human resources in the sector; and exchange of key personnel to learn from both sides in managing and maintaining heritage sites. In the long run it was also proposed that the Indian side could set up full-fledged Management cum Training Institute for training Saudi youth in the hospitality sector. Both sides agreed that these issues will also be discussed during the forthcoming Indo-Saudi Joint Commission meeting to be held in Riyadh on 31st October, 2009
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Rajeev Shahare and Mr. Bani Roy, Under Secretary, Ministry of Tourism. From the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Hamad Al-Ismail, Assistant Vice President for Investment Services, Dr. Fahd Al-Jarboa, Assistant Vice President for Marketing, Dr. Abdullah Alweshail, General Director, National Project for Tourism Human Resource Division and Eng. Ahmed Al-Eesa, General Director for Licensing and Quality Dept. were present in the meeting.
The Government of India Tourist Office (GOITO) Dubai in collaboration with the Embassy of India, Riyadh, has organized the "India Tourism Road Show" in Riyadh during the visit of Shri Sultan Ahmed. There will be a special segment on medical tourism in the Road Show which is of immense interest for Saudis.
Shri Sultan Ahmed is leading a large delegation comprising officials from Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Executive Directors of GOITO offices in Dubai and Tokyo and a large contingent of Indian tour operators. The event includes meetings with Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, detailed presentations on Indian tourism, buyer-seller meet between Indian tour operators and Saudi tour operators etc. The participants will also have a taste of famous Indian delicacies.
