Armed Forces rescue over 3600 people in flood affected areas of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh

Over 3,600 people have been rescued by the Armed Forces in the flood-ravaged States of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Columns of the Army, Air Force and Navy continue to be deployed for rescue and relief operations.
The Army has deployed two columns each in Kurnool and Vijayawada districts of Andhra Pradesh. In addition one column has been deployed in Guntur district. In Karnataka one column deployed in Karwar district for rescue and relief operation continue to provide aid to civil population along with digging implements for digging out buried people. In view of improvement in the flood situation in some districts of Karnataka, Army columns deployed in Bijapur, Ron and Hungan have been withdrawn. The Navy has deployed five teams for relief operations in Vijayawada district of Andhra Pradesh. In Karnataka, Navy has deployed two diving teams in Uttar Kannada and Karwar districts. Naval rescue teams have rescued around 1740 persons and distributed 2000 food packets and 1000 water packets so far.
The Air Force has so far deployed thirty aircraft and helicopters, carrying out 326 sorties. The Air Force has airlifted 15 boats, over 192 tonnes of rescue equipment and relief materials besides airlifting over 1090 people including Doctors, paramedics, rescue teams and flood affected victims who were rescued.
