SCHOOL STUDENTS OF REMOTE ASSAM GET A BRIEF OF IITs, IIMs etc.
OPERATION SADBHAVNA CONDUCTED TO GET NORTH EAST CHILDREN INTO MAINSTREAM

15 students from Kakopathar, Assam arrived in Kolkata today under Operation Sadbhavana project to expose them to the mainstream culture. They were received and felicitated by Maj Gen Munish Sibal of Eastern Command.
The objective of the venture is to expose the children from remote and far flung areas of Assam to developed cities. These students are being inspired to grow up into responsible and productive citizens of the nation. These students, mainly 14 to 15 years of age, have never been exposed to lives outside their district. Hence by facilitating, learning and self assessment through this educational tour the army aims to go a step further in winning the hearts and minds of the local population.
The tour is done in three phases. In 1st phase the children were taken to Shillong and to the military installation there to show them the rich traditions of military and also motivate them to join the army. They were later shown the scenic beauty in and around Shillong. The second phase brought them back to their economic capital Guwahati, where they witnessed the state's rich tradition and the developments made by the state. The last phase has brought them to the historic city of Kolkata. Here they will be exposed to past and present of booming India.
The students were also given briefing on educational and career avenues other than the Armed Forces.
