Press Information Bureau Government of ******* WORLD STANDARDS DAY TO BE CELEBRATED TOMORROW Kolkata : October 13, 2009 World Standards Day is celebrated each year on 14 October 2009 throughout the world. The purpose of celebration is to pay tribute to the world wide efforts of thousands of experts who are contributing directly or indirectly for development of Standards. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Eastern Regional Office, Kolkata is celebrating the World Standards Day on 14 October 2009 at Swabhumi. The programme will be celebrated through a technical seminar. The theme of this year's celebration is 'Tackling Climate change through Standards' as decided by leaders of three principal international standardization organization ISO, IEC and ITU. Increasing human activity, increasing greenhouse gas emissions are raising earth average temperature and consequences have an impact on climate change. Each sector of the economy, each consumer, everybody is concerned and acting with big or small actions to fight climate change. It is the ideal theme chosen for addressing the present acute global problem. The programme of the BIS will start from 10.30 hrs and continue up to 16.30 hrs. The programme will be inaugurated by Shri P. K. Agarwal, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary, Consumer Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal and Shri Dibyendu Bose, Chairman, Energy Sub-committee, BNCCI will grace the occasion as Guest of honour.
