KOLKATA, 19 DEC: The Alipore Court today instructed police to keep Mr RS Agarwal, a director of AMRI Hospitals, at SSKM Hospital under medical supervision after he was produced before a magistrate. Mr Agarwal, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital since his arrest, was produced before the court during the day.Police took him to the court in an ambulance from a city-based private hospital where he had been admitted with heart ailments. Previously, considering his health condition, the city police did not produce him before the court, though the other accused were. The decision to produce him before the court was taken after his medical report was checked thoroughly by experts. It was high drama throughout the morning as police decided to produce him before the court from the private hospital. He refused to open his oxygen mask, though his medical report is "Ok", a senior officer of the city police said. "He claimed that he would die if his oxygen mask is taken off and even declined to get down from the ambulance," the officer said.
Later, the judge came out of the courtroom and personally attended to him.
"The judge asked the city police to admit him at SSKM Hospital and prepare a medical report after setting up a medical team. The judge will consider Mr Agarwal's remand after production of the medical report tomorrow," said Mrs Damayanti Sen, joint CP (crime).
After producing him at the court, Mr Agarwal was taken to the Heart Unit of SSKM and admitted to Bed No. 1. Health department sources said a five-member medical board, headed by Dr Arup Biswas, was set up to monitor his health condition and prepare a report. sns
