JUSTICE FOR DR. AFIA SIDDIQUI AND ALL VICTIMS OF IMPERIAL POWER!

JUSTICE FOR DR. AFIA SIDDIQUI AND ALL VICTIMS OF IMPERIAL POWER!

We call on all supporters of human rights, all women¢s groups, all those opposed to torture, to protect the rights of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
Dr. Siddiqui is a 36-year-old Pakistani neuroscientist charged with the alleged attempted murder of FBI agents in Afghanistan. These charges, as well as a near fantasy tale about her supposed ¡ties to Al Qaeda¢, have been spread in the U.S. media without any credible evidence. She disappeared with her three young children while visiting her family in Karachi in 2003. She reappeared in U.S. custody in Afghanistan where she was shot and severely wounded during an interrogation by FBI agents. The Pakistan National Assembly recently adopted a unanimous resolution demanding Dr. Siddiqui¢s immediate repatriation to Pakistan, among other measures to ensure no violation of her human and judicial rights.
Dr. Aafia¢s sister living in Pakistan, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, fears that her sister¢s son is being tortured by the U.S. authorities to use him against her mother. The Afghani authorities only recently acknowledged that they had him in custody. The US had claimed to know nothing about this, which is rather doubtful since they have the whole country under occupation. Her family fears for her life, as latest reports appear that Aafia is in severe medical distress. Aafia had no medical attention since she was shot, and she was in such bad medical condition that she could barely move during her bail hearing on August 11. The judge ordered the hearing postponed until September 3 for her to receive medical attention, but she has only been seen by prison doctors so far.
Her lawyer, Elizabeth Fink, demanded at a Press Conference held at Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, on August 25, that she be transferred to Bellevue Hospital, which has a Center for Victims of Torture, so that she can receive the medical care that she needs.
Please help us to ensure that there are no more illegal wars of occupation, no more renditions and no more victims of U.S. government torture anywhere around the world. Join us at Dr. Aafia Siddiqui¢s bail hearing on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 9:30 AM at the US Court House, 500 Pearl Street at Worth St/Centre St, in Manhattan, New York to protect her rights!
