Central Employment Guarantee Council Meeting On Feb.22, 2010

New Delhi: February 8, 2010

 

The 11th meeting of Central Employment Guarantee Council (CEGC) has been scheduled on Feb.22, 2010 at Unnati Committee Room, Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. This will be the third meeting of the Newly constituted Central Employment Guarantee Council since the UPA Government returned to power in 2009. The 9th and 10th meeting of the council was held on August 19 and October 7 ,2009 respectively where the members discussed at length issues related to the administrative and technical capacity building under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act under the chairmanship of Union Rural Development Minister Dr. C.P. Joshi.

Members of the Central Employment Guarantee Council (CEGC) include representatives from the Central Government, the State Governments, Panchayati Raj Institutions, organizations of workers and disadvantaged groups with the representatives from women and members of Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, the Other Backward Castes and Minorities. The Central Employment Guarantee Council is mandated to perform the following functions and duties (a) establish a central evaluation and monitoring system; (b) advise the Central Government on all matters concerning the implementation of this Act; (c) review the monitoring and grievance redressal mechanism from time to time and recommend improvements required; (d) promote the widest possible dissemination of information about the Schemes made under this Act; (e) monitoring the implementation of this Act; (f) preparation of annual reports to be laid before Parliament by the Central Government on the implementation of this Act; (g) any other duty or function as may be assigned to it by the Central Government. In addition it is authorized to have the power to undertake evaluation of the various Schemes made under this Act and for that purpose collect or cause to be collected statistics pertaining to the rural economy and the implementation of the Schemes. .

18th Hindi Scientific Seminar on impact of Climate Change on Society inaugurated

New Delhi: February 8, 2010

 

Shri Shyam Saran, Special Envoy to Hon'ble Prime Minister on Climate Change inaugurated the 18th Hindi Scientific Seminar on 'Impact of Climate change on Society' organized by Ministry of Earth Sciences here today. Elaborating the importance of the theme he said that the entire mankind has been experiencing the onging changes in climate.

On this occasion, Secretary Official Language Shri B.R. Persheera said that with the organization of this seminar on the burning topic of climate change, the common man stands to get benefited alongwith popularization of official language Hindi. Last year a book compiled on the organization of a seminar on 27th January 2009 entitled 'Jalvauu Parivartan' was also launched.

Dr. Shailesh Nayak, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences welcomed tdhe chief guest and other participants. He also complimented the award winners of 2009 for Ministry of Earth Sciences' original book writing scheme. Under this scheme Shri Premchand Srivastav was awarded first prize of Rs. 50,000 for his book 'Hind Mahasagar ki samundri Khanij Sampada, the second prize of Rs. 40,000 to Dr. Tara Devi Singh for her book 'Hind Mahasagar evm sanlagna Rashtra Ek Bhu Aarthik' evm Bhu Samarik Adhayayan' and third prize of Rs. 30,000 to Prof. Madhu Sudan Tripathy for his book 'Sagar Sampada Mahatav and Prabandhan'. Alongwith cash prize all the three winners were given certificates and shields.

In this seminar about 14 scientists/professors are scheduled to participate who would present their papers in Hindi, Cash prize (ranging from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 5000) and certificates would be given for best presentation.

20 National Key Resource Centers identified for Rural Drinking Water Sector

New Delhi: February 8, 2010

 

The Department of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation under the Ministry Of Rural Development has identified 20 institutions as the National Resource Centers (NRCs) to help the States and their agencies in developing their IEC strategy as well as capacity building of different stakeholders. The list of institutions identified is at Annexure-I. The main activities expected from the institution as KRC, are as under:

 

i.)                  To build the capacity of key resource persons at the State level;

ii.)                 To build the capacity of key program managers and key resource persons of each district;

iii.)               To provide technical guidance to the States in establishing and proper functioning of the Communication & Capacity Development Unit (CCDUs);

iv.)               To expand technical guidance for implementation of reform initiatives in different districts allocated to them; and

v.)                To organize orientation workshop, meeting, trainings for main stakeholders at the State level.

 

The Department of Drinking Water Supply has called upon the identified institutions to prepare an Action Plan for the year 2010-11 furnishing the details of activities proposed to be undertaken by KRCs for rural drinking water sector in furtherance of the goal set in the National Rural Drinking Water Program (NRDWP) guidelines by 15th March, 2010.

4th ISBA Conference inaugurated today

New Delhi: February 8, 2010

 

Incubation is the best vehicle for innovation and it can play a significant role in achieving inclusive growth. There is much greater potential left to be harnessed to bring technologies to market and convert our young technopreneurs to become job creators instead of job seekers. This was stated by Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Hon'ble Minister of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences while inaugurating the three day Conference of "4th ISBA (Indian Science and Technology Entrepreneurs' Parks and Business Incubators Association)" here today.

Shri Chavan further said that under a newly introduced scheme called INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research), the Government have a plan to select atleast one best talented student for scientific studies from every school in the country who pass out 10th and 12th Standard. Government aims to increase the budget allocation for R&D from existing one per cent to 2 per cent of GDP, he added. On this occasion a tripartite MoU was signed for Rs. 55 crore fund for financial year 2011-12 to be allocated to ISBA member incubatee companies.

Shri Chavan gave national award to VIT Vellore for outstanding TBI 2008 (Technology Business Incubators) and ISBA 2010 Awards to nine Outstanding Incubatee Companies under different categories.

The exhibition gives a unique opportunity to the people to witness some of the novel technologies/products in areas ranging from crime detection, hazard mitigation, herbal pesticides, value added products from forest wastes, bio-diagnostics etc. During the Conference/exhibition around 200 national and international delegates besides a large number of visitors from academia organizations, investors etc are expected to participate in the exhibition.

Dr. T. Ramasami, Secretary DST and Dr. S.K. Brahmachari, Secretary, DSIR also addressed the participants. Shri R.M.P. Jawahar, President, ISBA, Dr. Rajendrea Jagdale, Secretary General, ISBA and Prof. Arun Nigavekar, Mentor Academia-R&D Workshop, ISBA were also present.
