| www.cbi.gov.in CENTRAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION INFORMATION SECTION CGO COMPLEX, LODHI ROAD, NEW DELHI 110 003 PRESS RELEASE NEW DELHI, DATED : 22.09.2009 CBI FILES A CHARGE SHEET AGAINST THREE ACCUSED IN THE SENSATIONAL MURDER CASE OF A DRI OFFICER The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a charge sheet today against three accused persons including a mastermind in the Court of Special Judicial Magistrate, Guwahati (Assam) under sections 120 B, 302 of IPC in the sensational murder case of DRI officer Sh. Tarun Kumar Dutta. Sh. Tarun kumar Dutta, an officer of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence was murdered on 12.9.06 at about 8.45 PM outside his house. The case was initially investigated by Chandmari Police Station, Guwahati. The sensational murder of a senior govt. official had created ripples in the area. Later, on 19.12.07 the case was transferred to CBI and was investigated by its Special Crime Branch, Kolkata. It was revealed during investigation that Sh. Dutta had seized huge consignments of Ganja smuggled by the gang of a mastermind of this murder case on several occasions. The accused and his nephew threatened the deceased also but this did not deter him from performing his duty. One week prior to his murder, he seized their another Ganja consignment. On this, the accused (mastermind) decided & conspired with his nephew and two another accused to kill the officer. On the directions of main accused & according to their plan, a few unknown people fired several rounds on Sh. Dutta in front of his house. He was taken to hospital but was declared brought dead. During the CBI investigation, two assailants have been identified. One of these two accused has since died. Therefore, CBI filed charge sheet against the mastermind of the murder case, his nephew, a conspirator and another accused today. The mastermind of this case, a dreaded name in narcotic world, is presently in Guwahati Jail. CBI has, however, requested the court to keep the investigation open. The agency is expecting to file more charge sheets in the case once other accused persons are traced and arrested. The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and the evidence collected by it.
