CBI REGISTERS A CASE AGAINST AN IAS OFFICER OF JHARKHAND CADRE AND OTHERS FOR IRREGULARITIES IN PURCHASES UNDER NRHM; CBI CONDUCTS SEARCHES AT 14 PLACES

 

New Delhi : August 31, 2009

 

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against former Health Secretary, an IAS Officer of 1991 batch of Jharkhand Cadre (presently functioning as Secretary, Institutional Finance), State Reproductive Child Health Officer (RCH Officer), three private persons and unknown persons u/s 120B/420/467/471 IPC and Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) & (d) of PC Act 1988 for irregularities in purchases under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) during 2008 and 2009.

 

It has been alleged in the FIR, that the public servants in criminal conspiracy with private persons and others abused their official position and fraudulently & dishonestly purchased medicines, medical equipments/appliances, sundry items etc. used in the hospitals from nineteen suppliers worth Rs. 1,30,50,79,951.74 without assessing the actual requirement and without observing the codal formalities prescribed in this regard. The amount squandered was out of the fund allotted for "National Rural Health Mission (NRHM)", an scheme sponsored and financed by the Govt. of India.

 

Searches are being conducted at 14 places including (i) Official residence of IAS Officer located at Mayors Rd, Ranchi; his house at New Vidyanagar,Sector IV, Paschim Vihar, New Delhi & in a room of Circuit House, Ranchi in his possession; (ii) residential & office premises of one private person at Jascon Plaza, Circular Rd, Ranchi; located at Vasudeo Agency, Kantatoli, Ranchi & Jascon Plaza, Circular Road, Ranchi; (iii) residential & official premises of another private person at Shailja Apartment, New Lake Avenue, Kanke Road, Ranchi; at Sandhya Niwas, Nawa Toli, Ranchi & in a Hotel at HB Road, Ranchi; residential Premises of State Reproductive Child Health Officer (RCH Officer) located near St Columbus College, Hazaribagh; Office of a Chartered Accountant of IAS Officer located at Church Complex, Ranchi and Warehouse of Health Department, located behind Directorate of Health Services, Namkum, Ranchi.

 

This case has been registered on the specific request of Govt. of Jharkhand with the approval of Govt. of India.

 

Further searches and investigation are in progress.
