Enhanced train fare concessions for amateur artists and Police Medalists from 15th August 2009
As announced by the Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee in her Railway Budget 2009-10 speech, the Ministry of Railways has decided that amateur artists (theatrical, concert, musical, dancing and magician troups & students-artists of the National School of Drama, New Delhi when traveling alone or in group) who are presently eligible for 50 per cent concession in First Class and 75 per cent concession in Second and Sleeper Classes basic Mail/Express fares will now also be entitled to 50 per cent concession in AC Chair Car, AC 3-tier and AC 2-tier classes in Mail/Express trains and 50 per cent concession will also be granted in the all inclusive fares of Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi trains in AC Chair, AC 3-tier and AC 2-tier classes. This concession will be admissible on tickets purchased on or after 15th August 2009.
As per another Railway Budget announcement, the Ministry of Railways has also decided to enhance the concession for Police Personnel of 60 years and above who have received President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service from 30 per cent to 50 percent for men and 60 per cent for women in the basic fares of Mail/Express trains of all classes and in the all-inclusive fares of Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi trains. This concession will be admissible on tickets purchased on or after 25th August 2009.

Independence Day Celebrations at Red Fort
The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will unfurl the National Flag on the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, 2009 to celebrate the 63rd Independence Day. After unfurling the Tricolor, Dr. Manmohan Singh will address the nation.
On arrival at Lahore Gate of Red Fort, the Prime Minister will be received by the Defence Minister Shri AK Antony, Minister of State for Defence Shri MM Pallam Raju and Defence Secretary Shri Pradeep Kumar.
The Defence Secretary will introduce General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area, Lt General Kanwal Jit Singh Oberoi to the Prime Minister. The GOC Delhi Area will then conduct the Prime Minister to the Saluting Base where a combined inter-services and police guard will present general salute to the Prime Minister. Thereafter, Dr. Manmohan Singh will inspect the guard of honour.
The Guard of Honour contingent for the Prime Minister will consist of one officer and 24 men each from Army, Navy, Air Force and Delhi Police. The Guard of Honour will be positioned directly in front of the National Flag across the moat below the rampart.
This year, navy being the coordinating agency, the Guard of Honour will be commanded by Cdr Gurkeerat Singh Sekhon. The Army contingent will be commanded by Captain Bhaskar Pandey, naval Contingent by Lt Cdr KSN Kumar, Air Force Contingent by Sqn Ldr AS Sachdeva and Delhi Police contingent by ACP Pushpender Kumar.

After inspecting the Guard of Honour, the Prime Minister will proceed to the ramparts where he will be greeted by Defence Minister, the Minister of State for Defence, Chief of Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Pradeep Vasant Naik. The GOC Delhi area will conduct the Prime Minister to the dais to unfurl the National Flag.
The unfurling of the tri-colour will synchronized with the 21 gun salute fired by the valiant gunners of the elite 299 Field Regiment. The battery will be commanded by Lt Col Manu Mohan and the Gun Position Officer will be RHM Paramjeet Singh. The National Flag Guard comprising 32 men and one officer each from Army, Navy Air Force and Delhi Police will present Rashtriya Salute at the time of unfurling of the National Flag by the Prime Minister. Cdr Jasvinder Singh will command the Guards. The Naval Contingent for National Flag Guard will be commanded by Lt Cdr Manish Chadha, the Army contingent by Captain Vinay Naik, the Air Force contingent by Sqn Ldr C Gulati and Delhi Police contingent by Additional DCP Vivak Kishor.
The Naval Band will play National Anthem when the National Guard presents 'Rashtriya Salute' whilst unfurling of the National Flag by the Prime Minister. All Service personnel in uniform will stand and salute. The Naval Band will be commanded by Dalbir Lal, Master Chief Petty Officer Musician 2nd Class.
Two Naval Officers, Lt APS Chouhan and Lt KG Das will be positioned on either side of the saluting dais for the PM for AsDC duties. Lt Manish Mathew will assist the Prime Minister in unfurling of the National Flag.
The Army contingent for National Flag Guard is from the 9th Battalion of Maratha Light Infantry which was raised on October 01, 1964 at the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre,
The Battalion's ex-Commanding Officer Late Colonel Vasanth V was awarded Ashok Chakra (Posthumous) for leading his troops from the front and successfully foiling an infiltration bid that led to the elimination of eight Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists during the Uri Tenure of the Battalion. After unfurling the National Flag, the Prime Minister will address the nation. After the Prime Minister's address, school children and NCC Cadets will sing National Anthem.
About one thousand Junior Division Cadets of the National Cadet Corps from Delhi Directorate comprising Army, Navy, Air Force and Girls wings are participating in the flag hoisting ceremony this year. The cadets will also participate in the singing of patriotic songs along with school children. Three thousand five hundred fifty girl students from 32 government and government-aided schools under the Directorate of Education, National Capital Territory of Delhi will sing the National Anthem. They will also sing patriotic songs in different regional languages before the start of the Independence Day ceremony. These children dressed up in green and light brown colour will re-create the image of India Gate.

3rd Renewable Energy India 2009 Expo concludes
The 3rd Renewable Energy India 2009 Expo organized by the Exhibitions India Group concluded here today on a triumphant note with over 12,000 trade visitors and over 1500 delegates attending the international exhibition and conference. Featuring an impressive technology showcase from the sectors of solar, wind, hydro, bio, geothermal energy, cogeneration and energy efficiency, the event had over 385 exhibitors from 27 countries displaying innovative solutions to make renewable energy application more viable.
A number of companies used the trade platform provided by the expo to launch their products in the Indian market. The products launched at the Expo include solar water heaters, HED lights, solar powered lighting systems, solar inverters, electric vehicles, wind electric generators (WEGs), hydraulic and mechanical items, wind monitoring and analysis systems, blades for WEGs, solar LED lanterns, bio mass cook stoves and energy efficient equipments for power generation, transmission and distribution.
In a move to integrate the innovators of tomorrow with the renewable energy sector, an interactive Youth Summit invited panelists from the industry, academia, R&D experts to a discussion on challenges facing the Industry today and how the" Youth…(can help) building a sustainable future" The forum discussed various education programs and the industry support given to viable green initiatives.

SJVNL pays Rs 80 crore interim dividend for year 2009-10
In view of the continued exemplary performance of its country's largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, public sector Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd has declared an interim dividend of Rs. 80 crore for the year 2009-10. Towards the 75% equity participation of the Govt. of India a proportionate interim dividend of Rs. 60 crore was paid to the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India.
The dividend cheque was presented to the Union Minister of Power, Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde by the Company's CMD Shri Hemant Kumar Sharma in the presence of MOS(P) Shri Bharatsinh Solanki, Secretary (Power) Shri H.S. Brahma, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Power and SJVNL.
Presenting the cheque Shri H.K. Sharma informed that during the current financial year, the country's largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Power Station had established new records of power generation. During July 2009 the power station had generated 1144 MU of electricity, which was the highest ever-monthly generation achieved at the Project. He said that the generation during the month was not only the highest so far but it had also been 118 MU more than MoU (excellent) target. During June 2009 also the power station had generated 1069 million units of electricity, which were 82 million units more than the MoU targets. Cumulatively during the period April 1 to August 12, 2009 the Power Station had achieved the highest ever generation of 3730 million units of electricity.
Shri Sharma also informed that for the financial year 2008-09 the Corporation had earned total income of Rs. 2029.24 crore against Rs. 1582.21 crore achieved during FY 2007-08. He said that the net profit of Rs. 1015.32 crore for FY 2008-09 was 33% more than the previous year.
Government of Himachal Pradesh, which holds 25% equity in the power station, will get an interim dividend of Rs 20 crore. The state also gets 12% free power from the power station besides 25% power at bus bar rates.
During the year 2008-09 the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Power Station, being operated by SJVN Ltd had generated 6609 million units of electricity against 6449 million units. The MoU targets for the FY 2009-10 are 6600 MU.
The Company plans an investment of Rs. 23000 crore during the next ten years. It has about 4000 MW capacity projects lined up for commissioning by the year 2020 in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and neighboring countries
