NCC Girls to attempt 18,910 Ft peak in Garhwal Himalayas
A 20-member NCC girls team has set forth on a mission to scale the Lamkhaga peak in Garhwal Himalayas. Director-General, NCC, Lt. General RK Karwal flagged off the expedition here today. Besides the 20 girl cadets, the expedition consists of team leader Lt. Colonel SS Phogat, a lady doctor Lt
The team will travel to Harsil, near Uttarkashi, on Sep.1st and undergo acclimatization till Sep.9th. They will then trek northwest to the base camp and attempt to scale the 18,910 feet high peak in two groups between September 12th-16th. The Lamkhaga peak connects northern Garhwal to Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh.
This is the 64th mountaineering expedition launched by the NCC. The NCC undertakes two such expeditions every year, - one each for boys and girls separately. Speaking on the occasion, Lt. General Karwal said that mountaineering is not only an adventure activity but also moulds young minds on tackling the challenges that lie ahead in life. When confronted with difficulties in life just like facing bad weather on the mountains, let the night pass, the dark clouds will threaten you but only a couple of days, he said. "Hold On, Don't Give Up! You shall make it to the summit," he added.
Commending the young girls on their aim to clean up the mountains on their route of non-biodegradable products, Lt. General Karwal said, "Do not insult the Nature, Adopt the Mountains with Humility."
