A day ago, students rallied across the campus premises and shouted slogans sporting placards. When dna tried to contact the Deputy Commissioner of Jadavpur division, he did not answer the calls.
The agitation comes in the wake of the arrest of Jawaharlal Nehru University Student's Union (JNSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar from the JNU campus last week over sedition charges. The alleged raising of anti-national slogans at the varsity campus during an event observing Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru's death anniversary, held on February 9, invited heavy flak from all quarters.
As controversy involving Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) students intensifies, Jadavpur University students in Kolkata expressed solidarity with JNU students on Monday.
Students rallied across campus premises and shouted slogans sporting placards.
The agitation comes in the wake of the arrest of Jawaharlal Nehru University Student's Union (JNSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar from the JNU campus last week over sedition charges. Alleged raising of anti-national slogans at the varsity campus during an event held on February 9 for observing Parliament convict Afzal Guru's death anniversary invited heavy flak from all quarters.
Meanwhile, JU students have demanded immediate release of JNUSU President. "We show solidarity with the ongoing movement in JNU and demand immediate release of JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar. We condemn the onslaught on fundamental rights to state our opinion on the mysterious way of giving death penalty to Afzal Guru," said university student Arumita Mitra.
Students said that more such demonstrations will be staged in coming days till Kumar is released.
Here you are!
Jadavpur University, Kolkata in solidarity with the ongoing struggle of JNU students, teachers, and all other Conscientious people of our society against the saffron fascist surge. At the same time some undemocratic slogans raised in JNU during the public gathering of 9thFeb are also being condemned.
But the act of branding an entire university "Anti-national" , "Terrorist-hub" needs to be resisted at the earliest. The ruthless atrocities on JNU students , teachers ,media-journalists by Saffron army of RSS-ABVP-BJP in association with Delhi police is continuing for the last three months!! Students are beaten black and blue by RSS/ABVP Thugs and police for protesting against insitutional murder of Rohith Vemulla , for protesting against the scrapping of UGC fellowships.
Our protests against RSS/BJP saffron fascist brutalities in suppressing dissent will , only intensify with each day.
Slogans like "Through our Movement and love for country , We will put an end to RSS/ISIS"
"We shall fight/ We shall win"
"With our revolutions , the fascist shall fall" were raised today.
I CAN LOVE MY COUNTRY AND BE ANTI-STATE AT THE SAME TIME.
Are you listening ? Saffron thugs ? !!!!
