Naga solution, money power top PCC agenda

Naga solution, money power top PCC agenda

Kohima, April 11: The Congress today reiterated its commitment to the people of Nagaland saying it would stand for an honourable political settlement.

"The Naga people have been expecting an early solution to the Naga problem but it is proving elusive. This meeting, therefore, strongly urges the Centre to resolve it within the shortest possible time," the PCC which met here today said.

Speakers at the meeting said the people of Nagaland and the Congress candidates were shocked at the incredible money power demonstrated by the ruling Naga People's Front (NPF) in the February Assembly elections.

"This election was in total contravention of Nagaland Baptist Church Council's clean election campaign where the fate of the representatives was decided by money power and less on issues confronting Naga society," the statement issued after the meeting said.

It said Nagaland was a poor and resource starved state, but the use of crores of rupees by the NPF calls for serious public scrutiny.

The statement also said the Centre should conduct at least a preliminary inquiry into the utilisation of centrally sponsored schemes during the past 10 years by the NPF led by the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland.

The meeting also unanimously resolved to immediately revamp the Nagaland PCC at all levels with a view to strengthen and revitalise all the organs of the party so as to make them functional with a new zeal. "The Nagaland PCC will continue to fight against the anti-people activities/policies of the DAN government perpetrated in the form of mass corruptions scandals, favouritism and nepotism," the statement said.
