Jamaat-e-Islami leader supports Kashmir poll boycott
Geelani, Mirwaiz hail people for polls boycott
SRINAGAR (SANA): The chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, and APHC (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have congratulated the people of Srinagar- Budgam parliamentary constituency for boycotting the elections and termed it as a `rejection of 60 years of Indian illegal rule in occupied Kashmir.'
Addressing a news conference at his Haiderpora residence here, Geelani asked the residents of Varmul constituency, where polls are slated for May 13, to follow the people of Islamabad and Srinagar.
Dismissing the statement of the chief minister, Omar Abdullah, that voter turnout was low due to militant threat, he said, "This is a baseless allegation and they are using it as an excuse to hide their failures. They are spreading lies, as they cannot digest the fact that people have rejected them and their politics."
Geelani also urged the people to protest against detention of political prisoners lodged in various jails across India.
Supporting Mirwiaz's call to defy restrictions around Jamia Masjid on Friday, Geelani said, "If the people are stopped from offering prayers at the historic Masjid then they should protest against it."
