* 10 May 2009 More than 25 of the CIA's war-on-terror prisoners were
subjected to sleep deprivation for as long as 11 days at a time during the
administration of former president [sic] George Bush, according to The Los
Angeles Times. At one stage during the war on terror, the Central

days, the Times

citing memoranda made public by the Justice department last month.

sleep deprivation had been one of the most important elements in the CIA's
interrogation torture program, used to help break dozens of suspected
terrorists, far more than the most violent approaches. And it is among the
methods the agency fought hardest to keep. The technique is now prohibited
by President Obama's ban in January on torture methods, although a *task

* 10 May 2009 When [waterboarding] was employed on Abu Zubaida, Khalid Sheik
Mohammed, and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the torturers in several cases
applied what the CIA's Office of Inspector General described in a secret
2004 report as "large volumes of water" to the cloths, explaining that their
aim was to be more "poignant and convincing," according to a recently
declassified Justice Department account. To assess whether interrogators
complied with the department's guidance, Senate intelligence committee
investigators are interviewing those involved, examining hundreds of CIA
e-mails and reviewing a classified 2005 study by the agency's lawyers of
dozens of interrogation videotapes, according to government officials who
said they were not authorized to be quoted by name.

that the United States would likely continue conducting airstrikes against
extremists in Afghanistan despite a sharp warning from President Hamid

lavished by Western aid agencies on their own officials in the
conflict-stricken country. "In the United States, Britain, and other
countries, people work and taxpayers pay money that goes to help Afghanistan
to build roads, dams, and electricity lines," Ramazan Bashardost, an Afghan
parliament member and former planning minister, said. Bashardost added, "But

* 10 May 2009 Syria rejected the Obama administration' s decision to renew

abandon foolish policies, a state-run newspaper reported Sunday. The State
Department announced Friday that *President Barack Obama felt compelled to

* 10 May 2009 In a bid to block the influx of terrorists to the country the
US is taking tough measures along the Canada border, similar to those taken
along the southern frontiers. Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist
attacks the US launched a campaign to safeguard its borders -- mainly the
southern borders with Mexico. [*It did? I must have missed that.*] However,
now the security activities are quite tangible across the 3,987-mile
frontier with Canada, something that according to a Los Angeles Times
article has shocked residents especially on the Canadian side.

identification of border crossers while radiation sensors and other devices
monitored vehicles entering by road. Soon, a network of telescopic and

* 07 May 2009 The FBI failed to remove thousands of people from its
"Terrorist Watchlist," sometimes years after determining that they were not
actually terrorists; failed to put on the list people who are tied to
terrorism, allowing them to enter and move about the country; and its
controls over "nomination" of people for the list without an FBI
investigation were "weak or nonexistent, " the Justice Department concluded
in a report released Wednesday.

* 07 May 2009 The FBI has retained almost 24,000 names on the nation's
terrorist watch list without current or proper justification, while failing
to include people who are subjects of terrorist investigations, according to
a Justice Department report issued yesterday. The FBI's lapses "create a
risk to national security," Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A.
Fine said in the report.

military tribunals established at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, under new rules that
would offer terrorism suspects greater legal protections, government
officials said. The military commissions have allowed the trial of terrorism

Unless Israel is secretly making White Phosphorus, and Bio and Chemical
weapon, as well as their secret nuclear weapons program (all UN or other
international investigation of this is vetoed by the USA), ONLY the USA is
allowed to make or distribute this stuff, as anyone else that does it is A
TERRORIST, as we have done our level best to make sure that all other
countries in then world have signed treaties and agreements to not make,
store or sell this stuff…..

And it is NOT a Secret that the USA makes and stores and distributes this
stuff, Ft Detrick being our main place of manufacture, the same place that
the Anthrax from the 2002 Anthrax scares, originated from (no other facility
in the world can make anything as pure as they make there).

Unless Israel is secretly making White Phosphorus, and Bio and Chemical

international investigation of this is vetoed by the USA), ONLY the USA is
allowed to make or distribute this stuff, as anyone else that does it is A

countries in then world have signed treaties and agreements to not make,
store or sell this stuff…..

And it is NOT a Secret that the USA makes and stores and distributes this
stuff, Ft Detrick being our main place of manufacture, the same place that
the Anthrax from the 2002 Anthrax scares, originated from (no other facility
in the world can make anything as pure as they make there).

l> US accused of using 'illegal' white phosphorus in chemical attack that
killed Afghan civilians 10 May 2009 The US faced damning claims tonight that
it used white phosphorus bombs in a battle with Taliban fighters that
resulted in the death of scores of innocent Afghan civilians. Doctors in
Afghanistan have found horrific burns on victims of the slaughter a week ago
they believe could have been caused by the chemical, which bursts into
fierce fire on contact with the air and can stick to and even penetrate
flesh as it burns. Although phosphorus can be used legitimately in battle to
light up the night sky, it is illegal to use it as a weapon. As many as 147
civilians were said to have died from American bombs dropped in the Farah
district of Afghanistan during last week's battle.

have they provided evidence that the insurgents fired these rounds.'

2009 NATO forces in Afghanistan should immediately release the results of
their investigation into a March 14, 2009, incident in which an 8-year-old
girl in Kapisa province was burned by white phosphorus munitions, Human
Rights Watch said today. A NATO spokesperson has denied allegations from the
girl's father that NATO forces had fired the rounds that caused her
injuries. The spokesman for the commander of NATO and US troops in
Afghanistan, Brig. Gen. Richard Blanchette, confirmed that white phosphorus
munitions are used in Afghanistan.

<http://news. yahoo.com/ s/ap/20090510/ ap_on_re_ as/as_afghanista n> Concern
over white phosphorus use on civilians in Afghanistan 10 May 2009
Afghanistan' s leading human rights organization said Sunday it was
investigating the possibility that white phosphorus was used in a
U.S.-Taliban battle that killed scores of Afghans. The U.S. military
rejected speculation it had used the weapon but [Wait for it... here it
comes...] left open the possibility Taliban militants did. The U.S. military
used white phosphorus in the battle of Fallujah in Iraq in November 2004.
Israel's military used it in January against Hamas targets in Gaza. Col.
Greg Julian, the top U.S. military spokesman in Afghanistan, said the U.S.
did not use white phosphorus as a weapon in last week's battle. Julian noted
that military officials believe that Taliban militants [!] have used white
phosphorus at least four times in Afghanistan in the past two years.

*The swine flu scare was just the latest example of why an economic theory
that mixes subsidization, consolidation and deregulation endangers us all.*

By David Sirota
Even if you don't dig on swine, it has become impossible to avoid them. If
you're not pummeled by television reports about Wall Street oinkers, you're
bombarded by talk-radio rants about congressional pork and newspaper
dispatches about swine flu.

The bacon-flavored themes probably aren't purposefully repetitive, but
that's OK because these seemingly unrelated story lines share a common bond:
They are each part of what might be called piggish capitalism -- an economic
theory that mixes subsidization, consolidation and deregulation and that now
endangers us all.

Take the pandemic scare: The Associated Press says scientists suspect swine
flu began in a Mexican town that "has been protesting pollution from a large
pig farm" partially owned by the Smithfield company. That's the same
Smithfield that used three decades of lax antitrust enforcement and
corporate welfare to become one of the few mega-corporations now controlling
global agribusiness.

Whether or not swine flu is ultimately attributed to this company is less
important than the justifiable reason factory farming is a suspect. As Pew
Charitable Trusts documented in 2008, researchers have long warned that
industrial agriculture means high concentrations of waste, overuse of
antibiotics and "continual cycling of viruses and other animal pathogens in
large herds" -- all factors that increase the possibility of diseases like
swine flu.
Yet, Congress has repeatedly rejected bills to mandate vigorous health
inspections, stop agribusiness consolidation and halt subsidies underwriting
that consolidation, meaning these companies are now so huge and unchecked
that they can pose a worldwide threat when livestock-borne disease strikes.
It's easy to understand why: A virus that might have been constrained by
small herds in our family-farm- dominated past can now exponentially
metastasize in our factory-run present. Thus, Wired
magazine's article noting that "scientists have traced the genetic lineage
of the new H1N1 swine flu to a strain that emerged in 1998 in U.S. factory
farms, where it spread and mutated at an alarming rate."

Unregulated, taxpayer-subsidized oligopoly spreading risk ... Sounds
familiar, right? It should, because at the very moment agribusinesses were
vertically and horizontally integrating themselves, so too were financial
firms.

In 1999, five days before Congress rejected a proposal to temporarily halt
agribusiness consolidation, President Clinton signed a landmark deregulation
measure that "ushered in an era of aggressive bank mergers," as Reuters
reports. The result was what critics like Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich.,
predicted at the time: Wall Street created "a group of institutions which
are too big to fail" and that "taxpayers are going to be called upon to
cure."

Mass producing mortgage-backed securities that were quickly infected with
subprime mutations, these financial factory farms became so enormous and
unregulated that they spread toxic assets throughout the entire economy.
Like the swine flu outbreak, risk might have been confined in a diversified
industry of small firms, but that risk went global because the behemoths
that created it now dominate the entire financial sector. And when losses
mounted, the government made banks whole with trillion-dollar bailouts.

Incredibly, our government hasn't learned from these crises.
Regulation-wise, there have been no serious initiatives to replace factory
farms' voluntary self-inspections with mandatory government probes, and new
financial rules have yet to move in Congress. Additionally, the much-vaunted
bank "stress tests" have been shrouded in secrecy, which experts say created
the potential for rampant insider trading. Likewise, in terms of pork-barrel
subsidies and mergers, agribusiness handouts and consolidation continue
unabated. Meanwhile, the White House seems loath to break up financial
firms, preferring instead another bank bailout -- even as analysts warn that
such bailouts fuel merger mania.

Pigs may, in fact, be the smartest domestic animal. But when charged with
managing capitalism, they clearly have trouble comprehending the simplest
lessons.

The Nature of the Current Financial Crisis: The System is designed to exert

Total Control over the Lives of Individuals

Richard C. Cook

Global Research,

Sunday, May 10, 2009

What impresses me in the current financial crisis is the near-total failure

of so-called progressives to appreciate the magnitude of what is going on or

the level of intelligence behind it. How many will say, for instance, that

the crash was deliberately engineered by the creation, then destruction, of

the investment bubbles of the last decade?

When the financial system creates bubbles it drives up the cost of assets

far beyond their true value in producing or storing wealth. When the bubbles

burst the value of the assets plummets. Those with ready cash then buy them

up on the cheap. When the dust settles more wealth has been concentrated in

fewer hands. The rich get richer, and ordinary people are left in a deeper

condition of indebtedness, poverty, and pressure to perform to the liking of

the financial masters.

Progressives think the system needs to be "reformed." Maybe the banking

system needs to be re-regulated or even nationalized. Maybe it should be

possible for families facing loss of their homes to get a lower monthly

payment from a bankruptcy court. Maybe the government instead of the private

sector should administer student loans.

What we fail to acknowledge is that the system itself is totalitarian. This

means that it is designed to exert total control over the lives of

individuals. We are accustomed to use this label when thinking of

anachronisms of history like communism or fascism. We do not understand that

globalist finance capitalism and the government which protects, enables, or

even regulates it are also totalitarian.

What has happened in the last year as the financial system has seemingly

gone belly-up, and is coming back only through massive government bailouts,

is part of a pattern that has been around for decades if not centuries. How

the controllers work was laid out in 1967 when Dial Press published a leaked

copy of The Report from Iron Mountain. This was a study put together by a

team of academics and analysts who met at the underground facility in New

York that was home to the Hudson Institute.

The report began by identifying war as the central organizing principle of

society. It stated, "War itself is the basic social system, within which

other secondary modes of social organization conflict or conspire. It is the

system which has governed most human societies of record, as it is today."

The report said that, "The basic authority of a modern state over its people

resides in its war powers." It said that any failure of will by the ruling

class could lead to "actual disestablishment of military institutions. " The

effect on the system would be, the report said, "catastrophic. "

The appearance of the report caused a sensation when it came out at the

onset of the Vietnam War. Officials within the government had no comment,

and the report faded into history. But certain of its sections fit the

situation in 2009 precisely.

This is because the report outlined the ways the civilian population of a

developed nation could be controlled even in the absence of a large-scale

war that disrupted their daily lives. One of these ways was defined as

follows: "A.possible surrogate for the control of potential enemies of

society is the reintroduction, in some form consistent with modern

technology and political process, of slavery..The development of a

sophisticated form of slavery may be an absolute prerequisite for social

control.." (Cited in Rule by Secrecy by Jim Marrs, 2000.)

We see the development of such a "sophisticated form of slavery" today. What

else can a system be called that subjects the population to skyrocketing

personal and household debt, a widening gap between the rich and everyone

else, constant warfare justified as necessary to fight "terrorism," erosion

of personal freedoms, constantly expanding power allocated to the military

and police, pervasive electronic eavesdropping, complete lack of

accountability by politicians for their dishonesty and crimes, a mass media

devoted solely to establishment propaganda, etc.

None of this seems to be diminishing under the Barack Obama administration.

Even the economic recovery Obama is attempting to engineer through massive

Keynesian deficit spending is expected by economists to be another "jobless"

one like that of 2002-2005. Of course the unemployed or those who fear

unemployment are easy to control. And the permanent series of Asian land

wars George W. Bush instigated for control of resources and geopolitical

leverage against Russia and China continue unabated.

None of this is accidental. As The Report from Iron Mountain made clear four

decades ago, it's what has been planned all along.

: CIA Weaponized FLU: IAHF List Report

Posted by: "mary whalen" mary57whalen@yahoo.ca   mary57whalen

Sun May 10, 2009 6:39 pm (PDT)

Let the people do what they want, you get Woodstock. Let the government do what it wants, you get WACO!....Mary.

............ ......... ......... ......... ......... ....John Hammell

IAHF List:    On Monday May 11th, I
will be the guest of Bill Deagle, MD on his radio show which you can hear
live from Noon- 1 PM Pacific Time (3-4pm Eastern time) at http://www.nutrimed ical.com/ . (If you miss it you can also
hear it archived here.)

Dr.Deagle is a Virologist who
was approached by the CIA a few years ago. They wanted him involved with a
campaign to create a weaponized flu virus for population control
purposes.

After reading through a stack
of their documents, he begged off and became a whistleblower against
them.

In preparation for my
show on Monday with Dr.Deagle, today I listened to an excellent interview
recently done of him and True Ott, ND by Jeff Rense which I strongly
encourage all of you on the IAHF list to listen to here: http://tr.youtube. com/watch? v=tY9xwiDV5V0& feature=PlayList &p=29A47AC6875B3 B1E&index= 3

Dr.Deagle has THIS to say about the
unfolding weaponized flu situation:

"The HAMMER has FALLEN and ALL
INGREDIENTS ARE IN THE CAKE."

Stating unequivocally that the so called "Swine
Flu" is actually a lab created concoction consisting of swine flu, avian flu,
and two different forms of human flu, all designed to mutate into more and more
lethal strains for maximum killing effect, Deagle's message is chilling, but
there ARE steps we CAN TAKE to defend ourselves against our murderous
government.

In Deagle's estimation, we could be under martial
law within 30-60 days. He states that the most at risk people will be health
care workers and police, and that government computer models that he witnessed
anticipate that most deaths won't come from the weaponized flu itself, but from
civil unrest stemming from it as freaked out people engage in an orgy of looting
and rioting, so protecting yourself medically is just one of several things you
will need to ponder for yourself and your family if you wish to be among the
survivors.

You won't want to miss our radio
show on monday, and you need to listen to the archive above of  Jeff
Rense's interview with Deagle and Ott because you will need this information to
protect yourself and your family. You will need to massively forward this
information to help bypass the controlled media because there is safety in
numbers.

See Government Template for Mass Vaccination:
http://www.infowars .com/government- template- for-mass- vaccination/    Our illustrious
government has plans in place to force vaccinate us all under the
Model Emergency Health Powers Act and under Executive Orders which
trigger Martial Law. Deagle warns us that what the CIA has just unleashed on us
has permanently changed the world. This is not going to just blow over.

He emphasizes that
they've even gone to the extreme of exhuming the corpses of miners killed by the
1918 swine flu pandemic from the permafrost in Alaska in order to bring this flu
back to life so as to include it in what they've just assembled in a lab and
unleashed on us.

Can you see the writing
on the wall?

Department of Homeland
Security Secretary Janet Napolitano issued a report on April 10th to law
enforcement labelling all military veterans, Ron Paul Supporters, Chuck Baldwin
Supporters, and other constitutionalists, anyone speaking out against the New
World Order, anyone opposed to gun control, all pro lifers, etc to be
"Right Wing Extremists" http://www.infowars .com/conservativ es-outraged- at-dhs-assessmen t-warning- of-violent- rightwing- extremism/

Massive Efforts are
underway via anti second amendment attorney General Eric Holder to strip us of
our firearms and ammunition, and I urge everyone on the IAHF list to oppose this
Nazi fascist by joining Gun Owners of America and by closely examining their
TAKE ACTION section at http://capwiz. com/gunowners/ home/

WHAT TO DO TO
PROTECT YOURSELF & YOUR
FAMILY

Jeff Rense interview of True Ott, ND and Bill Deagle MD

Dr.Deagle's show on Monday May  Noon- 1 PM Pacific Time
(3-4pm Eastern time) at http://www.nutrimed ical.com/ . (If you miss it you can also
hear it archived here.)

Study information on
Dr.Deagle's site such as:

SWINE FLU HYBRID AND
BRIDGE VIRUS TO SWINE-AVIAN FLU PANDEMIC GENES: Statements by Bill Deagle,
MD

The swine flu is common
in the agribusiness, and antibodies to swine flu are present in 20% of
vetenarians and 5% of pig farm workes, and rarely kills pigs.  However,
this swine flu that has presented in Mexico, Texas, California, Queens NYC,
London, Italy, etc. has genes of swine, avian, human, and asian flu.

This is without any
doubt a pandemic flu with a current case fatality estimated at 10 % plus, and
rapidly is leaping across North America and to Europe.  Since 1997, the
H5N1 flu has spread to all continents. Genetics showed that six strains had high
pathogenic case fatality rates in the range of 70% average from 25 % to 100 %
case fatality rates in humans, with some clusters of human to human spread, with
close physical contact.

Defiencies in two amino
acids needed to allow rapid attachment to human cells was found in all strains,
but can be acquired by recombinants with H9N2 or H7N3 or H3N2 etc. endemic human
stains that can also coinfect pigs, birds, agricultural animals, and animals in
the wild. Until fall 2008, the avian flu did not optimally replicate unless it
was at 106 degrees or higher, but now it has acquired the capacity to replicate
easily at 98.6 Farhenheit.

Drug resistance to
Amantadine, Tamiflu also are the predominant strains.  The current swine
flu is analagous to a early 20th century steamer trunk, with stickers showing
the visited countries and coastal cities. It has stamps from Asia, North
America, Avian, Swine and Human genetics. This is a "Lab Creation".

Now, we must understand
that this virus is behaving as if it is more lethal per case that usual flu, and
can recombine in pigs, wild and domestic birds, and other animals and can thus
acquire PB2 deletions, NS1 gene polymorphisms, and the polybasic six amino acids
that allow it to grow in brain and CNS as well as any other target organ in
human and animal hosts.

The NS1 deletion of four
amino acids bypasses IL4, and thus is much more lethal with massive cytokine
release at end stages. Because Avian H5N1 and the 1918 Swine Flu targeted young
healthy people, the release of cytokines was more violent in the most healthy.
This first wave is likely to recombine and after Phase 1 gene to population
insertion, Phase 2 will result in new superstrains with additional genetic
polymorphisms allow transfer efficiently to humans. Phase 2 is the bioreactor
phase. In the emergent or Phase 3, new viral Clades of Swine /Avian hybrids will
then have more efficient spreading and higher spontaneous
lethality.
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -

WHO UN ROTHCHILD'S
FUNDED WITH CDC NIAID PANDEMIC FLU    Human Life International
invited Dr Bill Deagle MD to speak, March 1997, to the International Board of
Doctors and Scientists.  After my two hour talk, the board sat me down for
a presentation of a foot of documents. Included were three distinct biological
programs.

The first was a plasmid
anti-HCG contaminated Tetanus Vaccine, to cause first trimester sterility by
spontaneous induced miscarriage in the target populations of Subsharan Africa,
Phillipines, and other target WHO UN high density population
countries.   The second program was the US Special Virus Project, with
mycoplasma RNA oncogenic viruses to cause immune failure, and premature death.
It was knows as the AIDS syndrome, and was a recombinant of Visna, Green Monkey
and Feline leukemia retro-RNA viruses carried by host mycobacteria.

Most important as the
large packet of documents on the Avian Flu Project, funded by the Rothchilds and
oversean by the WHO and UN. They were in process of obtaining gene fragments
from deceased whalers in Alaska with the CDC and Natl Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Disease, supercomputer remodeled and bioengineered resurrection of
the 1918 Swine Flu. They planned to insert into the genome Avian genes and spray
into Asian bird populations, which would later be a gene pool when spread was
complete to all continents for a new Swine-Avian Flu Pandemic.

We now see the H1N1 flu
in Mexico, Canada, UK, Italy, USA and perhaps other locations, rapidly evolving.
This wave is quite lethal, but with the H5N1 genetics in the wild, it is likely
to come in future waves with yet more lethal genes and more rapid
spread.   Certainly, in the next 7 days, the presence in multiple
countries, US Pandemic Flu Alert, WHO raised from 3rd to 4th level, and the
pronouncements for a decade plus of coming Pandemic Flu, this was totally a UN
WHO plot to release a virus that would cull the human herd. Martial law will
come with this or future waves in the next several months.   This is
the Final END GAME of the Global Elite, to fullfill Global 2000, NSSM 1974
population threat alerts, 1996 UN Population control documents, all calling for
massive reduction in World Human Populations. Last week, the UK Prime Minister
Gordon Brown called for a reduction from 60 to 30
million.

Statement On Allimed and
Swine Flu  Although this is a new flu virus strain, it appears to be
related to a simple H1N1 virus line. Symptoms in patients infected in the USA
and Europe appear to be severe and include high temperatures, sore throat,
sneezing and coughing. Swine flu appears to be very easily spread by coughing
sneezing or coming into contact with someone who is already infected.

Stabilized allicin as
found in Allimed with Allisure AC-23 is an excellent natural antiviral, fungal
and bacterial agent that has been proven in double blind placebo controlled
studies to both PREVENT the onset of viral disease and to remove symptoms in
patients already infected. I would ask patients to supplement with 2 Allimed
capsules per day to act as a preventative. All the Allimax, Alliultra and
Allimed products are available through www.Nutrimedical. com to get the virus

Bill Sizemore -- The Real Priority of Public Education

THE REAL PRIORITY OF PUBLIC EDUCATION

By Bill Sizemore

February 28, 2009

NewsWithViews. com

The primary purpose of the public education system is to increase

school budgets and enhance the salaries and benefits of school employees.

Kids and education rank somewhere around third and fourth in the list of

priorities.

Several years ago, in a debate with then Portland School

Superintendent Jack Bierworth, I asked the superintendent how much it should

cost to educate a child in Oregon. I thought taxpayers should have a goal,

so they would know when they finally were spending enough on schools.

As anticipated, Mr. Bierwirth declined to answer my question. Why?

Because no matter how much the educational bureaucracy receives, it always

wants the door left open to ask for more. In fact, I have concluded after

nearly three decades of working in the public policy arena that you could

double the money schools currently receive and they would be lobbying for

more within a year or two.

Several years before the exchange with Superintendent Bierwirth, an

earlier Portland Superintendent, Matthew Prophet, told a statewide

television audience that if Measure Five (a 1990 measure limiting property

taxes) passed, the next day he would have to give pink slips to every

teacher in the district. Two days later, voters ignored Mr. Prophet and

voted to cut their property taxes.

The following year, 1991, rather than laying off all its teachers as

Mr. Prophet had threatened, the Portland School District's budget increased

approximately 19 percent in just one year! Of course, 1991's extraordinary

spike in funding became the new standard by which future years' funding

would be judged and the groaning from school activists began afresh.

Today, we spend more than $10,000 per year per student on public

education in Oregon, and that's not including capital expenditures for new

buildings and school busses. Private schools, on the other hand, generally

spend less than half that amount, typically in the $4,000 to $4,500 range

and rarely ask parents for substantial increases in tuition. Go figure.

Currently, K-12 public education in Oregon consumes nearly half of all

state income tax dollars and about a third of all property taxes levied, and

still it is not enough. School spending in Oregon and in most of the country

is like a giant, miraculous sponge that cannot be filled, try as we might.

The giant sponge in Oregon, however, is about to be squeezed a bit.

Due to the current economic "slump," the state economist is forecasting a

substantial decrease in state revenue for the next two year budget cycle.

This time we're not talking the usual "pretend" decrease that politicians

always claim, but rather a real decrease in revenue, something that almost

never happens.

Can Oregon schools absorb their share of the coming cuts? Absolutely.

Will they do so responsibly and with calm? Probably not. It is never in a

public entity's interest to absorb budget cuts quietly. The teachers unions

and school activists will moan and groan about the cuts and pretend its all

about the kids. But as you will see, it's not.

Approximately, 82-85 percent of a school district's budget is spent on

employee salaries and benefits. Granted, education is a labor intensive

activity, so to some extent a high percentage is to be expected.

Nonetheless, spending 85 percent on employees doesn't leave a lot left to

pay for basics like textbooks, maintenance, utilities, fuel, fire insurance

and liability insurance. However, when you distill it all down, it's not so

much high salaries, but the employee benefit packages that are sinking the

ship.

Health insurance for school employees is the best money can buy.

Perhaps we can live with that. That's a typical perk enjoyed by public

sector workers almost everywhere. The real problem is the pensions. While

employee health benefits are the best money can buy, their pensions are more

than money can buy and in fact are so out of line that they are about to

collapse the entire house of cards.

Career teachers in Oregon routinely retire with pensions substantially

greater than their highest working salaries. They literally make more when

they quit. When a teacher retires (at an average age of 58) and receives a

pension greater than his or her highest working salary, schools must hire

someone else to do their job. For the next eight years schools essentially

must spend double for the years the teacher still should have been on the

job.

Of course schools struggle to buy new textbooks and fund music, art,

drama, and sports programs. You can't spend billions of dollars every year

so teachers can retire at age 58 on contribution- free pensions that are

greater than their highest working salary and not affect the kids. And you

definitely can't say kids are your highest priority when the facts shout out

that teacher pensions are more important than educating kids.

While private sector employers are spending on the average four

percent of salaries on pension benefits, Oregon schools are spending more

than 30 percent, and that's not including social security. (The national

average spent on public sector pensions is an astounding 18 percent and

Oregon spends much more than that.)

If teachers and other public employees across Oregon would voluntarily

agree through their unions to bring their pensions back in line with reason,

schools could weather this storm without cutting school days or programs,

and law enforcement authorities could keep more of the bad guys in jail. Do

you think there's any chance of that happening? I don't. It's not about the

kids and hasn't been for a long time.

The Obama administration is preparing to revive the system of military
commissions established at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, under new rules that would
offer terrorism suspects greater legal protections, government officials
said.

The rules would block the use of evidence obtained from coercive
interrogations, tighten the admissibility of hearsay testimony and allow
detainees greater freedom to choose their attorneys, said the officials, who
spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to
speak publicly.

The military commissions have allowed the trial of terrorism suspects in a
setting that favors the government and protects classified information, but
they were sharply criticized during the administration of President George
W. Bush. "By any measure, our system of trying detainees has been an
enormous failure," then-candidate Barack Obama said in June 2008.

In one of its first acts, the Obama administration obtained a 120-day
suspension of the military commissions; that will expire May 20. Human
rights groups had interpreted the suspension as the death knell for military
commissions and expected the transfer of cases to military courts martial or
federal courts.

Officials said yesterday that the Obama administration will seek a 90-day
extension of the suspension as early as next week. It would subsequently
restart the commissions on American soil, probably at military bases,
according to a lawyer briefed on the plan.
"This is an extraordinary development, and it's going to tarnish the image
of American justice again," said Tom Parker, a counterterrorism specialist
at Amnesty International.

A White House official said no final decision has been made, and one source
involved in the discussions said the plan awaits Obama's approval.

The administration' s extension would allow it to meet a requirement to
provide Congress with 60 days' notice of any rule changes in the way the
commissions function, officials said. Congress established the commissions
in 2006 after the Supreme Court struck down a system of military tribunals
created by the Bush administration.

The Obama administration' s plan to reinstate the commissions with
modifications reflects the fear that some cases would fail in federal courts
or in standard military legal settings.

Germany Bans Genetically Modified Corn

All GM crops have the potential to cause great irreversible harm.  Mary

Let the people do what they want, you get Woodstock. Let the government do what it wants, you get WACO!....Mary.

Germany Bans Genetically Modified Corn

http://articles. mercola.com/ sites/articles/ archive/2009/ 05/05/Germany- Bans-Genetically -Modified- Corn.aspx

Germany
has banned the cultivation of GM corn, arguing that the corn breed MON
810 is dangerous for the environment. But that argument might not stand
up in court, and Germany could face fines totaling millions of euros if
Monsanto decides to challenge the prohibition.

Under the new
regulations, the cultivation of MON 810, a GM corn produced by
Monsanto, will be prohibited in Germany. A clause in EU law allows
individual countries to impose such bans. Environmental groups welcomed
the ban, pointing out that numerous scientific studies demonstrated GM
corn was a danger to the environment.

However, it may be hard to
prove conclusively that MON 810 damages the environment, which could
enable Monsanto to win a court case opposing the ban. Monsanto has said
that it would look as quickly as possible into whether it would begin
legal proceedings.

MON 810 had been the only GM crop that could
be grown in Germany. The plant produces a toxin to fight off a certain
pest, the larvae of the corn borer moth. MON 810 is already banned in
five other EU member states: Austria, Hungary, Greece, France and
Luxembourg.

Sources:

Spiegel Online April 14, 2009

Dr. Mercola's Comments:

Germany
has now become the sixth country in the European Union to take a stand
against GM corn -- a wise move that unfortunately the United States has
yet to do.

Whereas close to 9,000 acres slated to be planted
with MON 810 corn in Germany will now be GM-free (assuming the ban
stands up in court if necessary), the acres to be planted with GM corn
in the U.S. is in the tens of millions.

German Agriculture
Minister Ilse Aigner announced she was banning not only the cultivation
of GM corn but also the sale of its seeds, saying she had "legitimate
reasons to believe that MON 810 posed a danger to the environment. "

Why GM Corn is Dangerous

French Professor Gilles-Eric Seralini,
molecular endocrinologist at the University of Caen and a member of two
French government commissions evaluating GM food, found that MON 810,
along with several other varieties of GM crops, showed statistically
significant problems in animal studies that regulators have not pursued
with follow-up research.

Seralini said the effects of the GM
crops were similar to that of pesticides, including inflammation
disorders, and problems with livers and kidneys, two major organs
involved with detoxification.

Further, biology professor Bela
Darvas of Hungary`s Debrecen University discovered that Monsanto's Mon
810 is lethal to two Hungarian protected species and one insect
classified as rare. Now Monsanto refuses to give him any more Mon 810 corn to use in his tests. They also refused his request for Mon 863, another GM variety.

So
not only has MON 810 been shown to cause serious damage to animals, but
it may also wipe out protected plant and insect species. Of course,
adding to the potential devastation is the fact that corn is a
wind-pollinated plant, which means it depends on the wind for
pollination.

While growers of GM food often say their crops
will be contained and unable to contaminate nearby fields, from an
environmental perspective contamination between GM and non-GM crops is
generally acknowledged to be unavoidable.

Really what can stop wind, tornadoes or other weather from blowing or transporting GM pollen or seeds over onto non-GM crops?

Not a whole lot.

So
by planting even a few thousand acres of land with GM crops, there's a
very real possibility that a much greater area could become
contaminated with the altered seeds, and subject to the potential
health and environmental insults as a result.

The United States
government`s support for biotech is no secret. In fact, it is the
official policy in several U.S. agencies to promote the industry, and
some of them have attempted to push acceptance of GM crops in Europe --
but let's hope they continue to hold out.

MON 810 was currently
the only GM crop approved for cultivation in Germany, so in choosing to
ban GM corn, Germany will become an entirely GM-free country -- a wise,
wise move.

Of course, it's not just GM corn that's the issue here; all GM crops have the potential to cause great, irreversible harm.

Are GM Crops Threatening the Future of Humankind?

GM crops routinely create unintended
proteins, alter existing protein levels, or even change the components
and shape of the protein that is created by the inserted gene.

This results in brand new proteins that have never before existed in food, some of which may be causing severe allergic reactions.

Creating
a GM crop can also produce massive changes in the natural functioning
of the plant`s DNA. Native genes can be mutated, deleted, permanently
turned on or off, or change their levels of protein expression. No one
knows how this will impact human health, but so far Jeffrey Smith has
documented at least 65 serious health risks related to GM foods.

Among them:

o Offspring of rats fed GM soy showed a five-fold increase in mortality, lower birth weights, and the inability to reproduce
o Male mice fed GM soy had damaged young sperm cells
o The embryo offspring of GM soy-fed mice had altered DNA functioning
o Several US farmers reported sterility or fertility problems among pigs and cows fed GM corn varieties
o
Investigators in India have documented fertility problems, abortions,
premature births, and other serious health issues, including deaths,
among buffaloes fed GM cottonseed products

Austrian researchers have now also
confirmed a direct link between a decrease in fertility and a
genetically modified diet. In order to protect the health of humankind
and the fertility of women around the world, GM opponents are calling
for an immediate ban of all GM foods and GM crops.

I
agree with them wholly, as genetically modified foods are, from my
perception, one of the largest threats that we have against the very sustainability of the human race.

How to Ban GM Foods from Your Diet

You may not be able to single-handedly
decide to ban GM crops in your country the way Germany did, but as a
consumer you do have power. You can choose not to be a victim of
deception, and you can choose what you feed your family.

Large
portions of Europe have already succeeded in removing GM foods out of
their food supply, forcing food manufacturers to use real ingredients
in their European product lines. But here in the United States we're
still stuck with it to a very large degree.

Since GM foods do
not need to be labeled in the United States, there are two main
tricks you can use to figure out if something is genetically modified:

o Examine produce stickers on the
fruits and vegetables you buy. The PLU code for conventionally grown
fruit consists of four numbers; organically grown fruit has five
numbers prefaced by the number nine; and GM fruit has five numbers
prefaced by the number eight.

o Buy organic as often as you can. By definition, food that is certified organic must be free from all GM organisms.

Keep in mind, too, that soy, corn,
cottonseed, and canola are four of the crops most likely to be GM, and
these are also ingredients commonly added to virtually every processed
food. So if you eat processed foods, be sure to buy only organic
varieties or, ideally, cut them largely out of your diet.

If more of us begin to refuse GM foods, food manufacturers will have no choice but to listen.
