[asom] Migrants are out to grab 'Protected Area ' land

Dear Moloy Baruah,

I think PIL is a good idea. Our government has a habit of rising up from slumber only when the court commands something. I can help you to get in touch with Legal aid organisation in Guwahati who takes up cases for free. Data on encroachment from defferent sources can be used as evidence.

Best regards
anjuman

Migrants are out to grab Protected Area land

As we all know , Pobitora is one of the 25th Protected Area in Assam( five N. Park, eighteen W/L two Bird sanctuary) declares as Sanctuary in way back in July-1987. The sanctuary is divided in to two parts. Main Pobitora near Rajamayang village is having 27.82 sq KM area while the Burhamayang area consisting the hills covers an area of 11.01 Sq KM. Burhamayang wild life area is having river Brahmaputra in one side and Burhamayang and other villages in the other side. While going to the Chanaka village one has to cross over the Hiloykhunda sentry camp on the river bank and over hill side of Burhamayang hill range. The Early Birds team recently visited the Chanaka village in connection with a cattle vaccination camp and found to its utter surprise that illegal migrants have build up thatch house numbering four/five next to the sentry camp! Assam is once again up with uproar against Bangladeshis and the Forest department is sitting tight with doubtful citizens proximity just over its nose. If the Forest department is really suffering from incapacity let them take help from police or CRPF or any other force they consider to be fit for the job. Assam government had very recently allowed Army personnel to get involved in wild life affair and to assist Kaziranga and five other areas protection. Eviction/ poaching/ encroachment/ tree falling in other areas can also be resisted with the help of other Arm Forces if not Army. The Early Birds had every reason to think that these sort of affairs, encroachment/ poaching are not reported by the Field level Forest officers to the higher ups and just wan to pass time without inviting any trouble. A recently filed RTA had revealed some shocking facts about Amchang W/L sanctuary, under the same Administrative control of Guwahati wild life city Div, on which Early Birds had already written to the Secretary ,MOEF Govt of India. If nothing happens EB is ready to approach High Court for remedial of this pot boiling affair.
