The book questions their Vedic origin. In Hindu religious scriptures they are described as the progeny of Brahmin women and sudra men. Were Brahmin women so lax in their morals that they mothered 'Chandals' so numerously by showing favour upon Sudra men? What was so special about Sudra men that Brahmin women were so enamoured of them and favoured them open-heartedly.
The book delves deep into the social morass of Bengali Society and brings out the reasons which led to its partition because of insults hurled at them in the grab of religion. The social division led to the partition of Bengal.
The Namasudras were made representations to the Simon Commission to improve their social standing and to demand justice in an unjust world. The representations reproduced here are invaluable asset of the book.
This book shall go a long way in arming the struggle for social justice.
